Oh bloody hell this is bad …

… that’s the heading on Questioning Transphobia for a piece on the new protections President Bush has signed in to allow healthcare professionals in the USA to refuse medical treatment.  And for any trans person who lives in, or travels to the USA, it is very bad indeed as it means that medics can refuse even emergency treatment to trans people.   Tyra Hunter all over again but now legalised.

Transphobia on Wikipedia

It’s easy to see Wikipedia as a paragon of the modern age, but it’s policy on free speech has it’s drawbacks.  On the discussion page for the entry for Tyra Hunter, it includes this contribution “I object to referring to the subject [Tyra Hunter] of this article as a woman, considering that plastic surgery to make someone appear female does not make them such, any more than surgery to make someone look feline makes them a cat.”

Incidentally, Wikipedia is considering deleting the entry for Tyra Hunter.  Those who are interested may wish to contribute to the discussion there and make the case for the page to be retained.
